History enthusiasts got the chance to delve into the heritage of Enfield by visiting the borough's top architecture sites including the landmark Meridian Water project.
The annual Open House London event offered a number of fascinating locations across the borough during the weekend of 21-22 September.
Meridian Water - where 10,000 homes will be built and thousands of jobs created - was just one of 23 locations in Enfield that opened its doors to the public.
The tour of Meridian Water provided an insight into the masterplan for the development, taking in the newly-opened train station and professional workspace Building Bloqs.
One of the oldest properties that featured on the list was the Jacobean manor house at Forty Hall Estate, while a modern destination included energetik’s Energy Centre at Arnos Grove - home of the wholly council-owned heat network.
Both energetik and the Meridian Water site have been newly included on this year’s Open House Enfield list, joining a range of other newcomers such as the Chickenshed Theatre, Priory Hospital and Tottenham Hotspur FC’s training ground known as The Lodge.
Other destinations included Myddelton House, Dujardin Mews, the Rumi Mosque and Dialogue Centre, the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium and St Alphege Church in Edmonton.
Enfield Council’s deputy leader, Councillor Ian Barnes, said: “Enfield has a diverse range of buildings participating in Open House and this year the borough can boast its largest number of participants – we have examples of Gothic revival, fine examples from the Victorian industrial period all the way to 20th and 21st century buildings that have a social as well as an architectural interest.
“We are very proud to have a fantastic line-up of buildings opening their doors to the public and it’s a fantastic way to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements and diversity of our borough."
