A major regeneration project planned for Angel Edmonton in Enfield has successfully won £1.1 million from the Mayor of London's Good Growth Fund.
The money awarded will go towards a number of crucial projects on Fore Street, which will be match-funded by Enfield Council.
The project will offer an 'urban room' for community engagement, enhanced library services, the creation of affordable office and retail space in disused garages, as well as a laundry yard and improvements for targeted areas along the road.
A programme of business support, the creation of employment and skills opportunities and the development of a strategic area plan will also be provided through the project.
Enfield Council leader, Councillor Nesil Caliskan, said the Angel Edmonton community is central to plans happening as part of the long-term programme of major regeneration works in Upper Edmonton.
She added: “The Good Growth Fund opens opportunities to build a resilient, vibrant town centre and connects the people of Angel Edmonton to the wider strategic growth presented by the regeneration of the Joyce and Snells estates.”
Cllr Caliskan said there would be “enhancements to the general look and feel of the area and deliverable measures to improve air quality which will in turn improve public health”.
She added: “Many people in Angel Edmonton have felt in the past that they have been left behind. This changes now. These measures will provide the boost to help move families out of poverty, support businesses to achieve successful, ongoing economic growth and will build the foundations for young people to harness their creativity and make meaningful life-changing progress.”
Deputy mayor for planning, regeneration and skills, Jules Pipe, said: “The mayor and I are committed to doing all we can to support projects which create opportunities to regenerate their local areas. This is a great example of how Londoners can take a lead in shaping the future of the capital.”
